Email notifications not working on Android? 8 fixes
Most missing notifications come from Android's battery and permission settings, not the app.
- Allow notificationsSettings, Apps, ECOMHUTSY Webmail, Notifications: turn them on. Android 13+ asks the first time; if you tapped Don't allow, turn them on here.
- Check the in-app switchesIn the app: Settings, Notifications: System notifications, New mail popups and Notification sound.
- Turn off battery optimisation for the appSettings, Apps, ECOMHUTSY Webmail, Battery: choose Unrestricted (or Don't optimise). Phones from Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Huawei are very aggressive here.
- Allow background dataSettings, Apps, the app, Mobile data: allow background data, and add it to Data Saver's unrestricted list.
- Check Do Not DisturbIf Do Not Disturb or a focus mode is on, add the app as an exception.
- Lock the app in recent apps (some brands)On Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo, open recent apps, long-press the app and tap the lock, so the system does not close it.
- Keep the app updatedNewer versions keep a live connection to your mail server for instant email. Get the latest from the download page.
- Restart the phoneIt sounds simple but clears stuck notification channels.
Still nothing? Send yourself a test email from another address while the app is open. If it arrives in the app but not as a notification, the cause is one of the phone settings above.
